History

To begin, you are only 20 minutes from a very solid regional airport, the Des Moines International airport. Altoona sits on Interstate 80 which immediately takes you east or west. You’re only 10 minutes from Interstate 35 taking you north and south. You are less than 30 minutes from the Iowa Speedway in Newton, an oval track that features national races and national drivers. Being a small town on the east of Des Moines you’re only a hop, skip and a jump from the Iowa State Fairgrounds, which host the Iowa State Fair, one of the finest in the country. Altoona may not have the lake that Ankeny does, or the golf courses that Waukee does, but guess what, you are SO close. You have Des Moines in your backyard
with its retail shopping, zoos, museums, restaurants, pubs, and many, many other attractions. You can visit at your convenience and then slip back to the quiet streets of Altoona.
