History

This little town with a population of only about 1,800 had its start back in 1869 with the introduction of the railroad coming through the territory. It became incorporated as a city in 1880. As the current mayor of the town likes to say, Dallas Center is “Quietly Progressive”. The town has and continues to have a strong agricultural base supporting the hundreds of acres of farmland surrounding the community.

Mound Park on the west end includes volleyball courts, a gazebo, shelters, tennis courts, playground equipment and a roller skating rink. On the east side of town you’ll find Memorial Park and more shelters, playground equipment, a dog park, basketball courts and disc golf course. Since the inception of the Raccoon River Trail in 2009 you can also find a trailhead in Dallas Center. This abandoned railroad right of way has created more than 90 miles in biking and hiking trails that only continues to grow as efforts start connecting other trails in the immediate region. One such trail is the 25 mile long High Trestle Trail. Since its opening in 2011 it has become one of the more popular biking trail destinations in the entire Midwest! An older conservative estimate has more than 3,000 recreational enthusiasts using this trail every week!

Directly to the east, only 20 miles, you will find Saylorville Lake, a large body of water that offers all water activities and is surrounded by two state parks that offer over 500 camping sites.
