History

Bondurant was founded in 1884 by Alexander Bondurant, the area’s first settler. The Chicago Great Western Railway built a railway station in the small town in 1883 and then the town was officially incorporated in 1897. The current population is right around 6,000 residents. The rail station served the area’s train passengers all the way up until 1962. As in so many communities coast to coast, the city purchased the vacant station and the rail right of way to create a trail system for both hiking and biking.
