Des Moines is a Great Place to Live!
Do you like value? Value for your dollar? Value for your time? Value for your family? Then look no further than Des Moines, Iowa! Let’s list a few of the areas that make this capital of Iowa such a sleeper on the national polls.
Let’s get started with this one. Everyone loves to own a home. The national average for the United States is at $211,731 per house in similar markets as compared to median household income. Des Moines comes in way below that at $168,620. These values will bounce in the metro area of over 600,000 people, but they still are reasonable. The inventory turns quickly as well. This might be because Des Moines is one of the big three cities on the globe supporting the insurance industry.
With the strong job market, low cost of living and numerous entertainment options in the area there are many homebuyers between 25 and 34 years of age. Young families are fueling the buying boom. The perks of the area also attract those aging. Roughly 12 percent are retirees and there are many more empty nesters. A nice diverse population. The predominately white collar industries attract those well-educated. 87% have a high school diploma and over 25% have a college degree. The mean income is just a pinch lower than the national average.
For those that enjoy the outdoors there are over 600 miles of biking and hiking trails and numerous parks. There are a handful of quality museums, a botanical garden, a first rate zoo and sculpture garden to name just a few. Sports fans can cheer for the Iowa Cubs, the Iowa Energy basketball team, the Des Moines Buccaneers or the Iowa Wild in hockey and the Iowa Barnstormers in arena football. The downtown farmers market has grown to eight city blocks, there are many festivals and there is the Iowa State Fair, one of the best state fairs in the country. In the summer months you can take your family and get your thrills at Adventureland, a first rate outdoor amusement park.
Nothing boring about the Midwestern weather. You will find all four seasons balanced nicely in Des Moines, from snow days for the kids to some humidity in late summer, it is nice to enjoy the beauty of new growth in the spring and the harvest in the fall.
Dining and Shopping
A budding area of this size drives opportunity. You have your choice of over 800 restaurants offering all ethnicities, and the shopping is supported by many national chain retailers complimented by the local mom and pops.
A Flyover State
Let it be summed up that it is your loss if you chose to fly over the state of Iowa. Des Moines will surprise you with elegant Colonial and Tudor style homes to lofts and condos for the millennial age. Finally, what better place to find good ole fashion Midwestern hospitality than Des Moines, Iowa.
