Missing Teeth

What is Full Mouth Reconstruction?

It’s exactly as it sounds: we change every aspect of your teeth, and sometimes we complete work on your gums, to ensure a healthier-looking smile. There are a number of approaches and treatment options we use to ensure a beautiful result following a full mouth reconstruction, including dental implants, gum therapy, braces, and more.

Dental Implants

Implants are one of the most popular and effective ways to improve the look and function of a person’s smile. Dental implants have 3 components that are used to build the implant including the root (which is a titanium screw that is surgically placed in the jawbone), the abutment (which is the part of the appliance that attaches the titanium screw to the new tooth), and the crown (which is the part of the tooth that is seen above the gumline). When treatment is complete, patients will have a beautiful set of permanent teeth. Crowns are typically made of porcelain and can last a lifetime when taken care of correctly. The timeline for receiving dental implants varies depending on how long it takes individual patients to heal after oral surgery; however, most patients complete dental implant treatment within several months from the time of consultation to completion. While dental implants are used to replace individual teeth, they can also be used to replace entire mouths of teeth. Dental implants and dentures are often used together to create the look of a full set of teeth without having to surgically implant a full set of dental implants. Four or more dental implants are used to secure the dentures in place, creating a permanent bond. Several options related to dental implants will be discussed during your consultation.

Gum Therapy

In order to prepare for any invasive or non-invasive dental treatment, some patients must undergo a series of gum therapy treatments. Sometimes, tooth loss occurs because of gum disease or damage, and it is vital that the patient has a healthy set of gums to house the new teeth they will be getting, either through a dental implant, crown, bridge, dentures, or other dental appliance. Gum therapy involves scaling of teeth to ensure any bacteria or infections are removed entirely. This needs to be done before any further treatment can be completed. It can take a couple of visits to our office to complete any necessary gum therapy, but it is an essential part of the full mouth reconstruction process.

Orthodontics

As part of our full mouth reconstruction services, our patients often require orthodontic services to change the way their teeth look. Braces are used to straighten teeth horizontally and vertically, and in some cases, they are used to rotate teeth into their ideal position. Every patient is different, and we take pride in providing a tailored experience to our full mouth reconstruction patients. We know it is difficult to undergo a great deal of treatment in order to restore the look and function of your mouth, and we make sure you are getting world-class service, coupled with compassionate and caring customer service.

Dental Crowns

When it comes to changing the look of your teeth, crowns are an ideal solution, and they are fast. Crowns can be designed and placed over your teeth in just a couple of weeks. They fit like “caps” over your existing teeth, so there’s no need to undergo tooth extraction. We’ll carefully move minimal tooth structure so that the new crowns can fit over them properly, and when the procedure is done, you’ll have a beautiful new look.

Bone Grafting

In addition to gum therapy, some patients will need to undergo a series of bone grafts to prepare the jawbone to receive implants or other dental devices and to maintain the integrity of the bone the years to come. Bone grafting can be done in two ways: traditionally, bone grafts are taken from a donor and surgically attached to your existing jawbone. Another option is to take bone from your own mouth and restructure it to fit your jawbone. We can discuss your options in detail during our consultation.

Root Canals

If there is a chance to save some of your original teeth, we will always try to do that. It means less recovery time for our patients when we can work with existing teeth and not have to extract them. Root canals, while they have maintained a bad reputation over the years, tend to be the easiest way to save a tooth from potential loss. When a root canal procedure is completed, we can place a crown over it to improve the look and function of the tooth without surgery or long recovery times.

Injury or Accident

If you are considering a full mouth reconstruction because of an injury or accident, we can help you review your options and make a plan to repair the look and function of your mouth. If your jawbone has been fractured or damaged, we can correct pain, discomfort, and bite problems with several dental appliances and treatments. There’s no need to live in discomfort any longer. We’ll help to restore the look of your mouth and teeth so you can get back to enjoying your life.
